“We are grateful and admiring.”

Dear Melinda,

We wanted to tell you what a loving, obedient dog Buddy is and how much, of course, we owe that to your attitude, advice and work with us. He has settled in very well and considers the house and the yard his own personal responsibility. He is a very good watchdog and wary of anyone who comes to the house, but we notice that he quickly reads our attitude toward the person(s) and when we explain that they are "friends," then he goes into his "welcome-them-like-long-lost-relatives" routine.

He and Dan take four to five long walks around the property. It is wonderful for both of them. When Buddy comes upstairs at night, he almost immediately climbs up on the bed, lies down and sleeps. When we get in bed, he then moves down to the chaise at the foot of the bed, covered with two of his rugs, and settles in for the night. There is an interesting story behind this: He used to get on the bed on my side and would challenge me if I tried to get in bed. But when he saw that it resulted in his being taken down stairs to stay for the night, and after two serious confrontations on the subject, he graciously gave up and returned my side of the bed to me.

He is a wonderful tonic for Dan and, I must say, a great source of feeling protected by us both. And, yes, he is fairly well spoiled by now. We didn't take him for car rides for a long, long time because he was so anxious when put into the car, fearing (we think) of being taken back or elsewhere. Now he will take rides with Dan, and the level of fear has markedly gone down.

You deserve the credit for helping the loving and trusting Buddy to come out, and we are grateful and admiring.
